CHICAGO — An Englewood car repair shop collapsed amid a large fire on Tuesday morning, a smoky blaze visible to drivers on the Dan Ryan Expy.
An employee at Aero Auto Repair, 221 W. 65th St., was using a torch on a car when the car caught on fire, said Larry Langford, a Fire Department spokesman. The fire spread "rapidly" and the building was engulfed by the time firefighters responded.
The one-story, concrete building collapsed as firefighters battled the blaze, Langford said.
Employees might have tried to extinguish the fire themselves, Langford said. No one was reported injured.
