LOGAN SQUARE — The team behind Emporium has plans for a new bar directly next door to the Logan Square location along Milwaukee Avenue.

The new bar, which has yet to be named, will not have a gaming theme, according to the owners.

Danny Marks, who owns both Chicago Emporiums — the other is in Wicker Park — and a recently opened suburban location with his brother Doug, said the bar will have a "unique concept," but offered no further details.

The brothers are in the process of opening a medical marijuana dispensary, Modern Cannabis, as early as this week at 2847 W. Fullerton Ave.

They separated a roughly 6,500-square-foot store in half to build out the marijuana dispensary. Marks originally said they would only need half the space while the marijuana industry remained in its infancy and that it was possible that they would expand the business at a later date.

Instead, the Marks decided to turn the half of the space that fronts on Milwaukee into a bar.

"For the record, it's not a bar and a weed dispensary," Danny Marks said.

There will be some food on the menu, but the focus will be on the drinks.

The owners hope to have the new concept open by this summer, as much of the work on the interior was done during preparations to open the medical marijuana dispensary.

"We like this building and location," Marks said. "I didn’t want someone else to rent it. We didn’t need the whole facility. We wanted the whole space because we didn’t want someone else over there."

The bar will join an already hot block of nightlife, sandwiched between Emporium and The Radler.

Other bars on the stretch include Slippery Slope, Chicago Distilling Company, Cole's, Revolution Brewing and East Room.
