CHICAGO — Spring Awakening, the electronic dance music festival held annually in Soldier Field, is moving to Jackson Park this summer after getting bumped from the stadium by an international soccer tournament.

Jessica Maxey-Faulkner, a Chicago Park District spokeswoman, confirmed to DNAinfo Chicago on Wednesday that Spring Awakening has a "conditional" deal to hold the festival this summer in Jackson Park, 6401 S. Stony Island Ave.

Louise McCurry, president of the Jackson Park Advisory Council, said she was told by the Park District that the concert would be on the soccer fields along 63rd Street.

"Getting young people into Jackson Park, at the soccer fields with guaranteed repairs, is a good thing for our youth and a wonderful way  we can introduce more Chicagoans to the site of the 1893 Columbian Exposition visited by 27 million people," McCurry said. "Equally important for me, all holes or damage would be immediately  repaired so that soccer games could continue as usual."

The news arrives after DNAinfo Chicago first reported that the festival's usual June booking at Soldier Field would be filled by the Copa América, a South American soccer tournament that will include North American international teams this year.

Tyler Jensen, a spokesman for Spring Awakening promoter SFX, did not have immediate comments on the festival's new South Side venue.

Founded in 2008, Spring Awakening in 2012 moved to Soldier Field, where its audience has grown every year. More than 40,000 people attended the three-day festival last year, according to Luca Serra, a Soldier Field spokesman, but the festival was also marred by the death of a festival-goer who died of an apparent drug overdose.

Ald. Pat Dowell (3rd), whose ward includes Soldier Field, has told constituents for months that Spring Awakening was leaving Soldier Field for a new venue, but where it was headed was previously unknown.

Spring Awakening will run from June 10 to June 12. Soldier Field will host the Copa games on June 5, June 7, June 10, and June 22.

Spring Awakening three-day passes are available now for $169.
