Austin Shooting Kills 42-Year-Old Man, Police Say

CHICAGO — A shooting in Austin left a 42-year-old man dead early Monday, police said.

At 12:30 a.m., the man was in the 500 block of South Cicero Avenue when he was shot in his chest, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead, Sedevic said.

The man was identified as Edward Flowers, of Plainfield, in Cook County Medical Examiner's records. Flowers was pronounced dead at 2:45 a.m.

The man was a documented gang member, police said.
