CHICAGO — To celebrate its third anniversary, Firecakes will be giving three random customers the chance to find a "golden donut" and win free donuts for a year.

OK, so there isn't an actual donut made of gold, but Firecakes will be giving customers who buy at least six donuts an envelope that could contain the prize of free donuts for a year, the artisanal donut shop said in a news release.

Firecakes is once again rolling out its "Golden Donut Celebration" in celebration of the store's third year in existence. The shop has become popular among the competitive high-end donut market, and has since opened its newest location in Lincoln Park, 2435 N. Clark St.

The original Firecakes location is in River North, 68 W. Hubbard St., and the brand also operates a food truck.

Through Feb. 7, visit any of the three shops to pick up a half-dozen donuts and an envelope. Those with a golden donut ticket in the envelope win a free dozen of donuts each month for a year, Firecakes said. Three customers will win free donuts for a year, according to the store.

And if you don't win that, at least you'll go home with a coupon for a free old-fashioned donut, Firecakes said.

"Our third anniversary is very special to us," co-owner Karen Fox said in a statement. "Our passions for making delicious donuts from the finest ingredients is as strong as ever."
