At 8:44 p.m., the man was walking on the sidewalk in the 4300 block of North Lavergne Avenue when a dark-colored SUV drove past and someone inside the car fired shots at the man, said Officer Ana Pacheco, Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was hit in the right arm and taken to Community First Medical Center, where he was in "stable" condition, Pacheco said.

The man is a documented gang member, police said.
