DOWNTOWN — It may be a dreary, chilly January day, but things are looking up: this weekend temperatures will reach nearly 50 degrees.

Saturday could be as warm as 46 degrees, said Stephen Rodriguez, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service. It'll be partly sunny and dry.

Sunday will have high temperatures in the mid- to upper 40s, but there is a 30 to 40 percent chance it will rain, Rodriguez said.

"It's above normal," Rodriguez said. "A normal high for right around this time of the year are low 30s or right around 31 degrees or so."

Cold air will sweep through the city on Sunday night, and it could be accompanied by a rain and snow mix, Rodriguez said. But the start of next week will be warmer than usual, with high temperatures in the upper 30s.

The high temperatures are due to a mass of warm air moving through the region, Rodriguez said.
