MOUNT GREENWOOD — Saint Xavier University in Mount Greenwood will once again host its indoor duathlon from 8-11 a.m. Feb. 21 in the school's Shannon Center.

The competition consists of three 15-minute races with five-minute breaks in between. Participants begin by running or walking on the indoor track at 3700 W. 103rd St. in Mount Greenwood. Then it's on to peddling a stationary bike. The race ends with another 15-minute dash around the track.

Whoever covers the most ground in 45 minutes wins, said Jennifer Quinlan, facilities manager for the university's campus athletic center.

She compared the duathlon to a triathlon — only without the swimming or fixed distances.

It costs $25 to compete in the competition, with discounts available to SXU students, alumni and employees. Time slots and bike selection will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.

Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers, and child care is available for parents participating in the race. Refreshments will also be available throughout the event. All participants will receive winter gloves upon completion of the race.

Advance registration is required. For more information, contact Quinlan at quinlan@sxu.edu or 773-298-3778.
