DOWNTOWN — Police are warning of a smash-and-grab burglar stealing from Downtown stores and restaurants this month.

In the burglaries, the suspect breaks through the businesses' glass doors or windows and then takes cash from cash registers and offices, police said Tuesday. The burglaries occurred at:

• 4:20 a.m. Jan. 15 on the first block of West Jackson Boulevard.

• 12:10 a.m. Jan. 24 on the 1100 block of South Jefferson Street.

Police declined to disclose the amount of cash stolen. The suspect, who was caught on two surveillance cameras, is described as a bearded black man wearing black-rimmed glasses and black apparel.

Anyone with information on the crimes is asked to call police at 312-747-8384.
