CHICAGO — Tyshawn Lee, who was lured into an alley and shot dead in November, would have turned 10 Saturday and grieving family members held a birthday party in his honor.

A birthday party for Tyshawn at a downtown Dave and Busters featured a photo cutout of the boy, who would have been 10 years old, and cake with his photo on it. "Happy 10th Birthday, Angel Tyshawn," was written on the cake.

Lee's family and friends posted about the party online, saying they loved and remembered Lee and were excited for the party.

"I can't wait til my [baby's] birthday party," Karla Lee, the boy's mother, wrote on Facebook. "I hope my [son's] spirit be in me that day."

Lee was fatally shot in an alley behind his grandmother's home in Auburn Gresham on Nov. 2, allegedly because of his family's gang ties. Prosecutors have said three men saw Lee playing in a park and lured him to the alley, where one of them shot Lee in retaliation as part of a gang feud.

The young boy's death made national headlines, with more than $16,000 being donated to the family.

Family and friends did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
