WICKER PARK — A designer secondhand clothing shop just south of Wicker Park's main hub plans to close Jan. 28 and is currently hosting a "last chance" sale for the nationwide chain's Wicker Park outpost.

On Monday, a worker at Second Time Around, 1543 N. Milwaukee Ave., confirmed the closure, which was announced through an e-newsletter sent to customers.

Officials from Second Time Around's Boston headquarters did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Monday but issued the following statement through a spokeswoman on Tuesday.

"Although we are closing our Wicker Park location, 2nd Time Around is 100% committed to the Chicago market. We currently have boutiques on Armitage Ave. and in Evanston.  We are are looking to build our footprint in Chicago and are always looking for new locations!" the spokeswoman said.

In 2014, the Wicker Park Second Time Around store began a search for a subleaser to take over its lease.

Rich Kahan, a partner at KB Real Estate, which represents the building's owner, said another tenant is scheduled to take over Second Time Around's lease on Feb. 1.

Citing client confidentiality, Kahan declined to name the new tenant but said it's a women's apparel store, not secondhand.

"It's a brand-new concept coming in from the Southeast. It will take a few months for them [to build the space out]," Kahan said.

Second Time Around opened its Wicker Park boutique in February 2012. A Lakeview location that followed the Wicker Park spot also opened in 2012 and closed in 2014.

Billed as a "rarely available location" in an online listing, the 2,100-square-foot retail space lease is being rented at $42 per square foot, making rent $7,350 per month on the 10-year lease, which expires in 2022.

Second Time Around has more than 40 locations around the country and celebrated its 40th year in business in 2013, according to the Boston Globe.
