WEST RIDGE — Two officers were injured and a third person was taken to an area hospital for "treatment and evaluation" after responding to a call Monday morning that later ended with a fire and Chicago Fire Department's involvement, police said.

Officer Ana Pacheco, a police spokeswoman, said officers were called to the 1900 block of West Granville Avenue at 10:40 a.m., and later two of those officers were taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where they are being treated for minor injuries related to the incident.

A third person was taken to another hospital, Pacheco said. Preliminary information did not indicate how the three sustained their injuries, or specifically what the injuries were.

Then, 18 minutes later, the fire department was also called to the 1900 block of West Granville to respond to an apartment fire related in the same unit where police had responded, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman said.

According to Ald. Patrick O'Connor (40th), the fire started at 1906 W. Granville Ave., causing the street between Ravenswood and Damen avenues to be temporarily blocked off.

The 1906 W. Granville Ave. building is technically part of the Misericordia campus, an organization that serves members of the community with special needs, however a representative said its residents were unaffected by the fire.

Though "a few" people were displaced by the fire in the three-story building, the fire department said no injuries related to the fire itself were reported, and the Salvation Army was on location helping building residents.

The fire "didn't escalate" from a "standard response" fire, meaning no extra alarms were added to its urgency or danger level.

By 12:40 p.m., O'Connor said the fire had been extinguished and the road was re-opened.
