Roseland Shooting Kills Man, Wounds Another Saturday, Police Say

By Kelly Bauer | January 24, 2016 4:30pm

CHICAGO — A Saturday shooting in Roseland killed one man and left another injured.

At 10:45 p.m. Saturday, the men were seated in a car in the 9600 block of South Calumet Avenue when a man got out of a dark-colored sedan and opened fire on them, said Officer Jose Estrada, Chicago Police spokesman. A friend drove the two victims to Roseland Hospital.

A 26-year-old man was shot in the back of his head and his left arm and was in critical condition, Estrada said.

The man was pronounced dead at 1:10 p.m. Sunday at Stroger Hospital, according to Cook County Medical Examiner's records. He was identified as Orlando McArther, of the 9600 block of South Forest Avenue.

A 21-year-old man was shot multiple times in his buttocks and was in "stable" condition, Estrada said. Police could not say the severity of his injuries.

The 21-year-old victim is a documented gang member, police said, and the incident might be gang-related.

No one was in custody in the shooting.
