BEVERLY — Treadfit in Beverly will donate the proceeds from four workout classes Sunday morning to March4Meg — a skin cancer charity named in honor of the late Meg (Donovan) Moonan.

The 50-minute classes begin at 7 a.m., 8 a.m., 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. at 10326 S. Western Ave. A $25 suggested donation will be asked of all participants.

Jennifer Harkins, of West Beverly, opened Treadfit on Aug. 10. The interval workout class combines an intense treadmill sessions with strength training exercises.

March4Meg is an annual 5K run and walk in suburban Evergreen Park. The event is meant to celebrate the life of Moonan, 43, who died on March 30, 2012 — just 19 months after she was diagnosed with melanoma.

Proceeds from March4Meg have been used to establish an endowment at Advocate Christ Medical Center in suburban Oak Lawn. Moonan lived near the southwest suburban hospital, which is using the funds to combat this deadly form of skin cancer.

The charity also uses the proceeds to raise awareness of melanoma throughout the Far Southwest Side. This area is home to a heavy concentration of residents with Irish descent and fair skin — often susceptible to dangerous sunburns.

Moonan attended St. Thomas More School in Ashburn and the former Maria High School in Marquette Park. She was also an active member at Most Holy Redeemer Parish in Evergreen Park, where she volunteered to teach religious education or CCD.
