CANARYVILLE — Ald. Patrick D. Thompson (11th) will host a second community meeting Jan. 26 to address a developer’s request to build four buildings, 56 apartments and 10,000 square feet of retail space in the neighborhood.

The meeting is set for 6 p.m. at Taylor Lauridsen Park, 704 W. 42nd St.

In 2015, David Chase, David L. Chase, a property buyer with BCG Enterprises, requested a zoning change to allow construction to begin on a stretch of vacant properties along Halsted Street: 4223, 4231, 4351 and 4361.

Thompson hosted the first meeting in September, allowing Chase to unveil his proposal, which includes one-bedroom and two-bedroom floor plans with rents between $1,600 and $1,800 apiece.

Many neighborhood folks met the proposal with disapproval.

"We don’t want ‘em!” Jeff Norris, a 71-year-old longtime Canaryville resident, yelled, as others cursed to themselves. “Take ‘em to the West Loop!”

The meeting on Jan. 26 will allow Canaryville natives to share their thoughts and concerns on the development.
