CHICAGO — An Animal Control employee left a dog in a car for five days, according to the Office of the Inspector General.

The employee left the dog in the car after an adoption event, finding it after five days and nights, according to a report from the Inspector General. The dog was found alive.

The employee who left the dog was suspended for 20 days, a supervisor was suspended for 10 days and a third employee who was involved was suspended for three days, all without pay.

The supervisor appealed the suspension on Jan. 5 and an appeal is under review.

Animal Care and Control updated it policies to "more accurately track animals going to and from" events, according to the report.
