WICKER PARK — Weather permitting, Wicker Ice, a community-funded and maintained ice rink in Wicker Park's namesake park, will open at noon on Sunday with a ribbon cutting and potluck social in the nearby field house.

After Sunday's debut, the rink will be open for all ages from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. An adults-only skate is scheduled for 7-8 p.m. daily and 7-9 p.m. on Saturdays.

On Tuesday, hockey begins. No reservations or time booking will be accepted and there will be no skate rentals available. Schedules are below.

All hockey players must read and sign rink rules and a waiver and bring their emailed confirmation of completion of both documents when they come to the rink to play, organizers said.

Volunteers are needed to maintain the rink and anyone planning to play hockey or skate is asked to volunteer as a resurfacing or rink monitor, said Doug Wood, a rink coordinator.

"Please understand that the rink is funded and maintained by volunteers like YOU working in partnership with the Chicago Park District - not by a rink corporation.  Let's fill the entire calendar for 2016 and have the best ice in the city," Wood wrote to prospective skaters in an email.
