Police Warn of Burglars Smashing Businesses' Front Windows

 Seven businesses in Portage Park, Edgebrook and Dunning have been broken into during the last several weeks by burglars who smashed the stores' front window or pried open the back door, police warned Wednesday.

PORTAGE PARK — Seven businesses in Portage Park, Edgebrook and Dunning have been broken into during the last several weeks by burglars who smashed the stores' front window or pried open the back door, police warned Wednesday.

The incidents happened in the:

• 5700 block of West Belmont Avenue between 11 p.m. Dec. 24 and 11 a.m. Dec. 25
• 3300 block of North Central Avenue at 6 p.m. Dec. 30
• 6200 block of West Belmont Avenue between 9 p.m. Dec. 31 and 5:45 a.m. Jan. 1
• 5600 block of West Belmont Avenue between 10 p.m. Jan. 4 and 4:30 a.m. Jan. 5
• 6400 block of North Kinzua Avenue between 5 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Monday
• 5800 block of West Belmont Avenue at 3:13 a.m. Sunday
• 5900 block of West Addison Street at 2:11 a.m. Sunday

In addition to smashing the front windows and prying open back doors, burglars in these incidents have also broken in through the drive-through window, police said. Cash and other items have been taken, police said.

Earlier this week, police issued two warnings about residential burglaries in Jefferson Park and Portage Park.
