WEST RIDGE — After 95 years of operating at St. Margaret Mary School, the Catholic facility in West Ridge is slated to merge with Northside Catholic Academy by the end of the school year, according to the Chicago Archdiocese.
In a statement, Archdiocese spokeswoman Susan Burritt confirmed "there is a conversation taking place between St. Margaret Mary School and Northside Catholic Academy about St. Margaret Mary School joining the Northside Catholic Academy partnership along with the other affiliated parishes."
Burritt said the St. Margaret Mary School campus, 7318 N. Oakley Ave., would continue to offer Catholic education, but under the banner of Northside Catholic, which is in Rogers Park.
She would not confirm which grades were expected to be housed in which building, but NBC News reported the St. Margaret Mary's location would hold 6-8th graders, while Northside Catholic would take in younger students.
Final details of the merger should be completed by mid-February, Burritt said.
In December, parents of St. Margaret Mary students were invited to attend a town hall meeting to discuss the "rumors" surrounding the future of the school. One parent, who did not want to give her name, said at another meeting Monday, bishops at the school recommended the merger.
