THE LOOP — Chicago Department of Transportation officials are warning Downtown drivers to expect slowdowns near the intersection of Clark Street and Randolph Street, according to a Tuesday announcement.

Starting Friday, utility workers will take up one of three lanes on the southbound side of Clark and the westbound side of Randolph for "much needed upgrade work" to the area's electrical grid and water system, officials said.

Working on weekdays and Saturdays, CDOT officials said they're anticipating to get the work done "by April."

The announcement encouraged southbound and westbound drivers to stick to alternatives like Wacker Drive, Madison Street and State Street.
