Austin Shooting Leaves 23-Year-Old Man Dead, Police Say

CHICAGO — Police found a man's body in the street in Austin after a shooting on Monday night.

At 9:20 p.m., officers found a man's body in the 700 block of North Lavergne while responding to a report of a person shot, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman. The man, who was 21 years old, was unresponsive and lying face down in the street.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Estrada said. He had been shot multiple times in his chest and abdomen.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Ronell Andrews, of the 600 block of North Lavergne Avenue. Andrews was pronounced dead at 9:39 p.m. at West Suburban Hospital, according to the morgue.

The man had no known gang affiliation, police said.

No one is in custody in the shooting.
