RIVER NORTH — A man who chased his lost keys down a high-rise garbage chute ended up in a very tight spot Monday — and he needed a whole lot of help getting out.
Firefighters had to use a rope harness to save the man from the River North high-rise, pulling him back to safety.
Firefighters freed the man at about 2 p.m. Monday when he got stuck in the chute on the second floor of the 13-story building at 171 W. Oak St., said Brian Regnerus, a spokesman for the Moody Bible Institute, which owns the tower.
He didn't get hurt. The rescue took about 10 minutes.
Regnerus declined to identify the man, other than to say he was in his late 40s or early 50s and a non-student resident of the building, which houses Moody Bible Institute students as well as non-students using housing vouchers.
The man, who lives on the second floor of the building, got stuck in the building's interior garbage chute after attempting to retrieve his keys, Regnerus said.
