'Empire' Heads to the Gold Coast This Week, and Here's Where You Can't Park

GOLD COAST — "Empire" filming is headed to the Gold Coast this week, shutting down parking on some streets in the neighborhood.

Ald. Brian Hopkins (2nd), whose ward oversees part of the Gold Coast and many other neighborhoods, sent a note to constituents Monday afternoon outlining which streets will close parking due to filming of the hit Fox drama:

6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday:

•The east side of North State Street from 1400 to 1550. 

4 a.m. Wednesday to 2 a.m. Thursday:

•The west side of Astor Street from 1500 to 1550.

•Both sides of North Clark Street from 1300 to 1348.

•The North side of East Burton Place from 2 to 30.

•The south side of East North Boulevard from 1 to 69.

•Both sides of North State from 1340 to 1550.

4 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday:

•The east side of Sandburg Terrace from 1500 to 1565.

•The north side of Germania Place from 101-200.

•The west side of North Clark from 1501-1525.

6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday:

•The east side of North State from 1400 to 1550.

The notice said some scenes may require intermittent vehicle and pedestrian control from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from 1400 to 1550 N. on State St.

Set in New York, Empire follows the relatives of a dying media mogul as they fight for control of the family business. Its first season last year was a surprise ratings hit, and female lead Taraji P. Henson won a Golden Globe on Sunday for her portrayal of family matriarch Cookie Lyon. The show airs Wednesday nights on Fox.
