DOWNTOWN — It's going to start snowing in the city just in time to mess up the Monday commute home.

The city, which is already beset with low temperatures and a brutal wind chill, should be hit by the snow starting between 3 and 5 p.m., said Accuweather meteorologist Tom Kines.

"Not a big snow, but could be an inch, maybe 2," Kines said. "Just enough to slick up the roads a bit."

The snow should stop around midnight, Kines said. But, the National Weather Service warned that the cold temperatures would cause snow to "stick" and make salt less effective.

Cold temperatures will stick around: Monday afternoon could see temperatures in the lower 20s, but the thermometer will drop close to 10 degrees during the night, Kines said.

It'll be cold on Tuesday, too, with temperatures hitting about 12 degrees while wind makes it feel like it's -10 to -15 degrees outside, Kines said.

That cold weather means Chicagoans will have to protect against frostbite, Kines said.

"I wouldn't test it," Kines said. "If you have to be outside, it's a routine where you dress in layers, you protect your exposed skin, the hands, your ears, your nose, those parts of your body that are most susceptible to frostbite. Wear a hat.

"It's gonna feel like winter tomorrow, and probably look like it, too, with the snow we're gonna get [Monday] evening."
