BRIDGEPORT — Another taco joint is coming to the neighborhood.

When spring rolls around, Rick and Ashley Ortiz plan to open an Antique Taco at 1000 W. 35th St., the former home of a gas station, chicken shack and Mr. Submarine.

The opening, after four busy years at the original Antique Taco in Wicker Park, will serve as a homecoming for Rick Ortiz, who grew up in Bridgeport with his family.

Ashley Ortiz said opening a new location in Bridgeport will give neighborhood folks a dining experience they won't find at other Mexican restaurants.

"We want to grow the Antique Taco brand in the neighborhood,” said Ortiz, who plans to open the restaurant in April or May.

The site at the corner of Morgan and 35th Street will add to a hefty list of taco shops in the neighborhood.

The couple plans to separate themselves from other Mexican restaurants by offering a walk-up window and large outdoor patio where you might catch a farmer’s market stocked with local goods — or an antique car show.

The South Side Antique Taco’s menu — complete with beer and margaritas — will offer many of the same items as the Wicker Park location. Tacos are whipped up with family recipes and ingredients sourced in the neighborhood.

Additions may include al pastor and enchiladas.
