Heat Map Shows How The 606 Changed Bucktown, Logan Square Exercise Routes

By Paul Biasco | January 8, 2016 6:19am

LOGAN SQUARE — Unsurprisingly, The 606 has brought out runners, walkers and bikers who want to cruise or stroll along the top of the elevated trail.

An interactive map depicting bike and running routes of people using the Strava app shows a huge surge of use along The 606 as well as arterial streets near the new trail in 2015 versus 2014, using a slider bar to contrast between the two years.

The app uses GPS tracking to allow runners and bikers to map their outing, while collecting that data to provide unique looks at where people really exercise.

If you look close enough, you can see the most popular route to get between The 606 and the lakefront trail is across the Cortland bridge, down Armitage Avenue, down Clark to Lincoln Park Zoo and across the North Avenue bridge.

The full map is available at Strava Labs.
