BRIGHTON PARK — Officers shot at and arrested two armed men near the scene of a shooting that left a 17-year-old dead in Brighton Park, police said.

Around 10:25 p.m., the teen was standing with a group in the 3100 block of West 41st Place when a white SUV pulled up and someone inside shot him multiple times, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The teen was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Sedevic said. He was identified as David Gonzalez, of the 3100 block of West 41st Place, in Cook County Medical Examiner's records. Gonzalez was pronounced dead at 10:57 p.m. of multiple gunshot wounds.

Moments after the shooting, Sedevic said, officers tried to pull over a vehicle that was driving "at a high rate of speed" in the 3200 block of South Claremont Avenue. A chase ensued until the vehicle crashed at the intersection of 32nd Street and Western Avenue.

Three people ran from the car, and one pointed a gun at an officer, Sedevic said. At least one officer then fired shots, but no one was hurt.

Police arrested two men and recovered two guns, but the third person is still at large and being sought by detectives, Sedevic said.

Police could not confirm whether the men were involved in the earlier shooting.
