THE LOOP — One of the oldest bars in the Loop is reopening next week in style.

Or at least with 11 kegs from 3 Floyds Brewery.

Monk's Pub, which has been serving Downtown barflies at Lake and Wells streets since 1971, will reopen Jan. 15 with at least 11 kegs juiced by the popular Munster, Ind.-based brewery.

"Beers start pouring at 11 a.m.," Monk's said in a Facebook post.

A longtime watering hole, Monk's opened on Lower Wacker Drive in 1969 before moving to 205 W. Lake St. in 1971, according to the Chicago Bar Project. Monk's current owner took over in 1978 and fashioned the pub with lots of timber, like the monastery where he spent one summer as a child, the website says.

But the pub shut its doors Dec. 24 to make way for a big construction project that included the demolition of a century-old building next door, leaving many Monk's regulars worried the bar was closing permanently. A developer bought the now-demolished site at 215 W. Lake St. last year with plans for a 33-story apartment tower there

3 Floyds is known for crafting popular brews including Zombie Dust and Gumballhead. A representative of the brewery did not immediately return a message, nor did Monk's Pub.
