ENGLEWOOD — Police will set up checkpoints Friday and Saturday in an effort to nab drunk drivers on the South Side, according to a Thursday announcement.

A team of breathalyzer-equipped officers from the Deering district will be on the lookout for reckless drivers between 7 p.m Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday, the announcement said.

They'll be stationed on the 1300 block of Garfield Boulevard, on the border between the Englewood and Back of the Yards neighborhoods.

Officers set up a similar checkpoint nearby, at the corner of 64th Street and Ashland Avenue, on New Year's Day, resulting in 29 total citations for DUIs, traffic violations and seat belt violations, according to police.
