COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A Lincoln Park man was arrested early Monday after he brutally attacked his ex-girlfriend inside her Buena Park home — and then fell asleep on her couch, prosecutors said.

The 30-year-old victim, who suffered a collapsed lung and chipped teeth, has had an active restraining order against Travis R. Holcomb since October, court records show.

That didn't stop Holcomb, 33, from entering the woman's apartment though an unlocked back door just after midnight Monday, according to an arrest report.

Holcomb began to beat and kick the woman, who had spent her evening out with friends, before eventually choking her until she passed out, Assistant State's Attorney Erin Antonietti said during a bond hearing Tuesday.

According to prosecutors, Holcomb strangled the victim several times as she drifted in and out of consciousness. Holcomb, who is listed as 6-feet-5 and 200 pounds in court documents, kneeled on the woman to pin her down, Antonietti said.

When the victim eventually regained consciousness sometime before 3 a.m., she found Holcomb asleep on her couch, police and prosecutors said.

Officers arrested Holcomb, who has previously been convicted of domestic battery and is currently on probation, according to court records. Details of prior convictions were not immediately available.

The woman was treated for a collapsed lung, bruising and swelling, prosecutors said. She also suffered chipped teeth.

Holcomb, of Lincoln Park, is charged with aggravated domestic battery, aggravated domestic battery by strangulation and violating an order of protection for prior domestic battery.

His attorney said Holcomb has a master's degree and is self-employed.

Cook County Judge Donald Panarese Jr. on Tuesday ordered Holcomb held in lieu of $500,000 bond. As of Tuesday evening, Holcomb had not posted bail and was in custody at the Cook County Jail.
