GARFIELD PARK — Police are asking West Side residents to be on alert following a month of multiple incidents of burglaries, armed robberies and carjackings.

According to community alerts released Friday, armed robberies were reported on the following dates and addresses, at varying times of day:

• The 3900 block of West Van Buren Street on Dec. 11

• The 400 block of South Kostner Avenue on Dec. 16

• The 3900 block of West Flournoy Street on Dec. 18

• The 3600 block of West Washington Street on Dec. 23

Police said they believe two of the robberies were committed by three black men: one in his mid-20s standing around five feet eight inches, one in his mid-30s and about five feet eight inches tall, and a third who had an "afro hairstyle," according to the alert. They were seen fleeing in a white sedan.

Police believe a second group, two men and a woman, was behind the other two robberies. In at least one incident, they were seen fleeing in a black two-door car.

Home burglaries, meanwhile, were reported on the following dates and addresses, generally in the evening:

• The 800 block of North Ridgeway Avenue on Dec. 17

• The 3700 block of West Division Street on Dec. 19

• The 3900 block of West Division Street on Dec. 22

In each case, police said, burglars entered through the front door or back door of an apartment and made off with items.

The carjackings were all reported on Dec. 26 at the following addresses and times:

• The 4600 block of West Van Buren Street at 5 a.m.

• The 900 block of North Ridgeway Avenue at 6 a.m.

• The 900 block of North Hamlin Avenue at 9:30 a.m.

In each incident, two men pointed a gun or a knife at a driver and fled with their car, police said.

Both suspects were described as black men, police said. One is 17-21 years old, standing between five feet three inches and five feet seven inches tall. The other, police said, is 25-26 years old and about five feet 10 inches.

Anyone with information on the incidents or suspects is encouraged to call Area North detectives at 312-744-8263.
