West Side Hit-And-Run Kills Pregnant Woman — But Doctors Deliver Baby

By Ed Komenda | December 25, 2015 8:30am | Updated on December 25, 2015 9:22am

NORTH LAWNDALE — Police say a dark-colored car plowed into a pregnant woman in a hit-and-run Thursday night.

The woman died — but her unborn baby boy survived.

Around 10 p.m., 26-year-old Karla Leanos was walking in the 4200 block of West Ogden Avenue when a sedan hit her. The driver fled the area before ambulances showed up and rushed Leanos to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Doctors were able to deliver the baby: A healthy boy, a police source said.

Police are interviewing a “person of interest” in the case.
