AUSTIN — Two men were shot to death and a woman was injured in separate shootings in Austin Wednesday, police said.

Around 1:45 p.m., a 33-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman were walking in the 1100 block of North Leclaire Avenue when a man walked up and shot at them before fleeing northbound, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was brought to Stroger Hospital in serious condition after being shot multiple times, Sedevic said. He was later pronounced dead.

Medical examiners identified the man as Christopher Ruffin, of the 3400 block of West Foster Avenue.

The woman brought herself to West Suburban Hospital, where she was treated for a ricochet bullet wound in her finger, Sedevic said.

Police said Ruffin and the woman were both documented gang members.

At 6:17 p.m., about three blocks away in the 1000 block of North Lamon Avenue, a 39-year-old man was arguing with someone inside a residence when the other person pulled out a gun and shot him multiple times, Sedevic said.

Medical examiners identified the man as Nathan Smith, of the same block.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene, Sedevic said.

Police said Smith was a documented gang member.
