CHICAGO — A suburban man has been charged with punching a Metra train conductor in the face and trying to push him down a flight of stairs at Union Station earlier in December, Metra said Tuesday.

George J. Kopsias, 51, of Buffalo Grove, has been charged with two counts of felony aggravated battery to a transit employee, in connection with the Dec. 8 incident, Metra said in a news release.

Kopsias allegedly boarded a North Central service line train leaving Union Station, 225 S. Canal St., at 4:40 p.m. Dec. 8 when he punched the conductor, Metra said. He then left the train and walked north to the Madison Street exit to the station, where he met up with his wife and three children, Metra said.

The conductor followed him, according to Metra, and when Kopsias saw the conductor he allegedly tried to push him down the stairs leading to the station.

The conductor was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries to his face and was released, Metra said.

Detectives for Metra identified Kopsias through security footage. He is scheduled to appear in bond court Wednesday morning, Metra said.
