AVONDALE — About 25 emergency responders are still at the scene of a Monday night fire in Avondale.

At least 110 emergency responders were at the scene of the two-alarm fire at 3057 N. Rockwell St. on Monday, but that number fell throughout the night and into the morning. Now, firefighters are pouring water onto the remains of the fire and "chasing hot spots, doing overhaul," said Fire Department Cmdr. Walter Schroeder.

There were no reports of injuries and no one was transported to the hospital, Schroeder said.

The fire was mostly out by 9:40 p.m. and one firefighter on the scene said they'd be "just pouring water on it all night." Power also was out in a four-block area around the complex.

Metropolis Coffee Company's new 18,000-square-foot roasting facility is nearby, but the coffee roaster said its building is not on fire.

Schroeder said his personnel arrived at 7:44 p.m. Monday, advising all his companies to remain in "defense mode" as the fire raged on.

At least one portion of the building collapsed, the commander said, but no other structures were immediately threatened by the fire, and they were not concerned about it spreading to nearby facilities.

Pictures of the scene showed tall flames licking the sky above as black smoke clouds lingered above.
