Man, 71, Shot and Killed As He Answers Door Early Sunday, Police Say

CHICAGO — A 71-year-old man was shot and killed in Back of the Yards on Sunday, police said.

At 6 a.m., the man was answering the door at his home in the 5200 block of South Green Street when he was shot twice in his chest, said Officer Bari Lemmon, Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.

The man was identified as Fredell Bryant in Cook County Medical Examiner's records. Bryant was pronounced dead at 6:51 a.m.

No further information about the shooting was immediately available, Lemmon said.

No one is in custody.
