2 People Killed, 8 Injured in Shootings Since Saturday, Police Say

CHICAGO — Two people have been killed and eight injured in shootings since Saturday.

• Most recently, at about 7:05 a.m., a 38-year-old man was in the 6000 block of South Sangamon Street in Englewood when he was shot in the back, said Officer Bari Lemmon, Chicago Police spokeswoman. No information about the man's condition or where he was treated was available.

The man is a documented gang member, police said.

• At 6 a.m., a 71-year-old man was shot and killed while answering his door in Back of the Yards, Lemmon said.

• At 5:20 a.m., one man was killed and another was wounded while sitting in a car in Back of the Yards, Lemmon said.

• At 3:50 a.m., two people were shot outside a Bucktown night club, Lemmon said.

• At 1:20 a.m., a 37-year-old man was driving in the 4400 block of South Western Avenue in Brighton Park when he crashed, Lemmon said.

A passenger in the car realized the victim had been shot and drove him to the 5500 block of South Lake Park Avenue, where he flagged down a fire truck, Lemmon said.

The victim was then taken by ambulance to Northwestern Hospital, where he was in "guarded" condition with a gunshot wound in his upper left chest, Lemmon said.

• A little after midnight Sunday, a 17-year-old was shot in Garfield Park, Lemmon said. The teen was walking in the 400 block of South Homan Avenue when someone in a car fired in his direction.

The teen was hit in his foot and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was in good condition, Lemmon said.

• At 6:40 p.m. Saturday, a 23-year-old man was shot in Auburn Gresham, Lemmon said. The man was driving in the 7800 block of South Ashland Avenue when he heard shots and felt pain in his left thigh.

The man drove home and a relative took him to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was in "stable" condition with a gunshot wound in his leg, Lemmon said. Police did not say the extent of his injuries.

The man is a documented gang member, police said.

• At 3:10 p.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in Hermosa, Lemmon said. The man was in the 2400 block of North Kilbourn Avenue when he saw an SUV drive by and then circle the block and return. A man got out of the car and fired at the victim.

The victim was shot in his groin area and taken to Presence Resurrection Medical Center, where he was in "stable" condition, Lemmon said. Police did not say the extent of his injuries.

Nobody is in custody for these shootings.
