LAKEVIEW — Tenants responsible for a house party that allegedly led to a shooting in Wrigleyville last week are now facing eviction.

Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) said Thursday that he would help the building's landlord with the eviction process.

"We will continue to work with the owner and police to help get the problem tenants out of the units," Tunney said in an e-newsletter.

At least 78 shots rang out around 3 a.m. Sunday near Racine and Patterson. A gang conflict in Evanston was drawn to Wrigleyville during a house party the night after the Twelve Bars of Christmas (TBOX) bar crawl, police said.

The shootout between two groups of men also drew shots from police officers, one block from Wrigley Field. One man was injured nearby and treated for a gunshot wound in his upper back, and Ralph Banks, 19, of Evanston was later charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm. No other arrests have been made in the case.

Both police and organizers said the shooting was unrelated to TBOX, and one officer chalked it up to "bad timing."

In Chicago, landlords can evict tenants for failing to pay rent or violating the lease agreement, but tenants have a chance to correct the violation. Even standard leases, however, include a requirement to comply with the law as a condition of the lease.

Tunney's office did not immediately respond to questions about the type of assistance he would provide to the landlord or on what grounds the owner would seek eviction.
