MOUNT GREENWOOD — Residents of the 19th Ward are asked to show their support for fallen Chicago firefighter Daniel Capuano by lining the route of his funeral procession on Friday.
Capuano, 42, was killed early Monday morning after falling two stories down an elevator shaft at a burning South Chicago warehouse. The 15-year veteran of the Chicago Fire Department leaves behind a wife, Julie, and three children — Amanda, 16, Andrew, 13, and Nicholas, 12.
"I am hopeful that our community lines the streets to give Dan Capuano a heartfelt send-off," said Ald. Matt O'Shea (19th) on Thursday afternoon.
Capuano's funeral Mass begins at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Rita High School's chapel at 7720 S. Western Ave. in Ashburn. Following the service, a funeral procession filled with fire trucks, ambulances and other emergency vehicles will head southbound on Western Avenue, turning west onto 103rd Street in Beverly, O'Shea said.

From there, the procession will travel westbound to Central Park Avenue where it will again head south at the intersection marked by Queen of Martyrs Catholic School in suburban Evergreen Park. Capuano was an active member of the parish where his two sons also attend grade school.
The procession will travel southbound on Central Park Avenue before turning west on 105th Street. The group will then turn south again on Hamlin Avenue, where the procession will briefly pause in front of the family's Mount Greenwood home, O'Shea said.
From Hamlin Avenue, the procession will travel to 107th Street, again heading west to Pulaski Road. The line of vehicles will then head southbound on Pulaski Road to 111th Street where the group will again turn west and conclude at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleum at 6001 W 111th St. in Alsip.
A memorial fund has been also established for Capuano's family by the Ende, Menzer, Walsh & Quinn Retirees' Widows' and Children’s Assistance Fund.
The fund delivers immediate financial assistance to the family, and supporters are also asked to contribute via an online fundraiser. For more information on the fund, call 312-726-9022.
