BRIDGEPORT — Fabulous Freddies Italian Eatery recently unveiled a Horse of Honor statue to salute fallen Chicago Police Officer William J. Luce.

Here’s a look at the painted horse, sporting neighborhood street signs, police emblems, a portrait of Comiskey Park and a Chicago star:

Bridgeport-area artist Erika Vazzana made the art covering the horse, installed Dec. 6.

Luce spent two decades with Chicago Police, assigned to the department’s Special Operations Unit, where he wore star number 14287.

Exposed to radiation during firearms testing, he suffered severe burns on his body and face. Luce died from cancer on Aug. 14, 1989. He was 45.
