WICKER PARK — Penny's Noodle Shop will close its Wicker Park location, 1542 N. Damen Ave., after the new year, the restaurant's owner announced in a Sunday Facebook post.
The space's previous landlord was foreclosed upon due to "alleged financial mischief" and the restaurateurs wouldn't be able to pay for a renewed lease without raising their prices, the post read.
"We always prided ourselves on serving homemade food at a price that folks could enjoy as frequently as they wanted and not only on special occasions," the owner Gus Chiamopoulos wrote in the post. "We didn’t want to stray from that direction."
The post suggested that another eatery has already laid claim to the space, saying "the new owners have offered to consider hiring as many of our current employees as possible."
The restaurant's last day of service will be Jan. 2, according to the announcement.
Penny's Noodle Shop fields two other locations, in Lincoln Park and suburban Oak Park. Calls to Chiamopoulos were not returned Sunday night.
