MORGAN PARK — Delivery drivers were issued a warning by the Chicago Police Department on Monday afternoon after a series of armed robberies in the area near 10700 S. Loomis St. in Morgan Park.
The business alert issued by police in the Morgan Park District said the robbers ordered food to an address within the area and assaulted the drivers.
In the most recent robberies, drivers were approached by two men who displayed a firearm and demanded the food and money. These incidents happened on Dec. 1 in the 1200 block of West 109th Street and on Nov. 22 in the 1300 block of West 107th Street — both in Morgan Park.
Earlier this year, two pizza delivery drivers were robbed in Morgan Park by a group armed with a wooden board. These robberies both happened in the 10700 block of South Loomis Street, police said.
The first such robbery occurred at 8:45 p.m. on Sept. 23. The second incident happened at 4 p.m. on Sept. 24. Both drivers were approached by a group of five black males 18 to 22 years old and one black female, also 18 to 22 years old, police said on Sept 29.
After one of the thieves armed with the board and threatened the drivers, others in the group then took the pizzas, money and the driver's phone, according to police.
Police are asking any businesses that receive orders for this block to notify them immediately. Also, businesses are asked to retain all records on the caller and any order information.
Anyone has information about the robberies is encouraged to call the Area South Property Crimes Bureau at 312-747-8273.
