LAKEVIEW — If you're shopping for the perfect gift in Lakeview this weekend, capitalize on three holiday events in the neighborhood.

The Southport Holiday Stroll kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday, and 23 businesses and restaurants will offer special deals to entice shoppers. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be strolling the streets, and customers who make purchases at three participating businesses get a free $20 Lakeview gift card.

Shops like CustomEyes, Dogaholics Boutique and Lolë are offering storewide discounts. Mystic Celt and Newport Bar and Grill are offering specials, and many stores are offering free gifts with purchase.

Catch free Nutcracker dances at A FairyTale Ballet, 3234 N. Southport Ave., and meet Bob the Minion from 6-8 p.m. at Candyality, 3737 N. Southport Ave.

Both the Lakeview and Lakeview East chambers of commerce have gift cards that can be used at a range of participating businesses, and they're offering discounts on the respective stroll days.

Get 25 percent off Lakeview East cards at the chamber, 3138 N. Broadway, from noon-4 p.m. Saturday. Those who buy a $100 Lakeview gift card at Southport Grocery and Cafe, 3552 N. Southport Ave., on Friday get a $20 bonus card, as well. Get the full list of special Southport deals here.

Starting at noon Saturday, Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce will host its Holiday Treat Stroll. Shopping is sweeter than ever, as 24 businesses offer up free goodies to snack on while you browse.

Cesar's will offer mini burritos, quesadillas and flautas, while Clark Street Dog will have Ale Syndicate Brewery's "Paulina" beer. Try chocolate-covered orange peels at KC Chocolatier or French toast casserole at New York Delicatessen. See what other snacks will be offered here.

Laugh Factory, 3175 N. Broadway, will play free holiday movies, with "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" at 2 p.m. and "Elf" at 3 p.m.

Lincoln Avenue's Jollypalooza will follow from 1-4 p.m. Saturday. Eighteen businesses from Addison to Diversey will offer special deals to holiday shoppers, and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be wandering around to greet passersby.

CHALK Preschool Lakeview will host gingerbread house-making, and Waxman Candles will have free cider and cookies. Universal Sole will be giving away bowls of chili, and The Peace School will have free refreshments and mini-classes in self-defense or peace breathing.

Heritage Bicycle will offer 25 percent discounts off food and drink for those who bring a toy to donate, and other stores are offering discounts on merchandise. Get the full list here.
