ROGERS PARK — Towbar, a favorite Rogers Park neighborhood cafe, closed its doors "for good" Tuesday — just weeks after its owners said they were going "back to basics" with the local eatery.
A post on the restaurant's Facebook page thanked customers for their patronage and explained the store was closing due to "unforeseen circumstances."
"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our loyal patrons from Rogers Park and elsewhere, for supporting us over the last 2 years, but due to unforeseen circumstances, we have not been able to keep Towbar afloat. We will be closing on December 1st and shutting down Towbar for good. Please drop by over the next couple of days and grab a coffee and say goodbye. Thank you, so very much!" the post reads.
Less than a month ago, owner Sandra Carter, who had sold Towbar to restaurateur Chris Cassas in April, announced she and two other original owners were "back at the helm" of the eatery despite Cassas' "best efforts" to keep his motorcycle-themed cafe operating.
The cafe's owners did not respond to request for comment.
