PORTAGE PARK — The Filament Theatre Ensemble will perform beloved Christmas classics at a holiday party Dec. 5 that will double as a fundraiser for the Portage Park arts group.

For the fourth year, the movies "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" will be shown in the ensemble's recently renovated space with the sound turned off.

Members of the ensemble will perform the characters' voices and the Slap Happy Jazz Trio will play the soundtrack, organizers said.

The proceeds will fund "another exciting season of theater and gatherings in Portage Park," organizers said.

Two shows will take place Dec. 5. Tickets are $15 for the 2:30 p.m. performance, which will be geared to children younger than 10. The show will include games, snacks and a chance to sing along with the holiday favorites, organizers said.

Tickets are $25 for the 6:30 p.m. performance, and attendees are invited to wear their holiday best. Appetizers and drinks will be served, and attendees will have a chance to dance, organizers said.

The formerly itinerant ensemble moved to Portage Park in 2013 and transformed the former furniture warehouse at 4041 N. Milwaukee Ave. into a performance venue.

The group hopes the theater will become a community hub in the Six Corners Shopping District, a desire shared by Ald. John Arena (45th), who has been working to turn the long-struggling area around Milwaukee Avenue, Cicero Avenue and Irving Park Boulevard into an arts and entertainment district.
