COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A mover stole $17,500 worth of jewelry from a Lakeview home last month, prosecutors said Thursday.

Steven Eisenach, 34, was arrested after he pawned a 14-karat white gold chain in Albany Park and used his driver's license as an I.D. for the transaction, Assistant State's Attorney Erin Antonietti said during a bond hearing Thursday.

Eisenach is currently on parole for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

According to prosecutors, Eisenach was working for North Shore Movers and Storage on Sept. 29 when he was assigned to a move in the 3900 block of North Southport Avenue.

One of the movers told the woman who lived at the residence to keep her valuables separate from the other items she was having moved, Antonietti said. The woman placed her jewelry in her purse, which she left in her bathroom. Eisenach had access to the room, Antonietti said.

On Oct. 4, Eisenach pawned a gold chain matching one of the items stolen from the victim, according to an arrest report.

The owner of North Shore Movers and Storage, a family-owned company based in suburban Northbrook, declined to give his name in a telephone interview Friday but said Eisenach has worked for the company since the mid-1990s and the allegations against Eisenach were shocking and "out of character" for him.

The homeowner did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Eisenach, of the 4500 block of North Keystone Avenue in Albany Park, was arrested Wednesday afternoon. He is charged with felony theft.

According to the Illinois Department of Corrections, Eisenach was previously convicted of armed robbery and aggravated robbery in 2005. He also has an attempted-burglary conviction from 2003. Eisenach is currently on parole for possession of a stolen motor vehicle; he was sentenced in 2011 to six years in prison and was released on parole on Nov. 20, 2014.

Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas on Thursday ordered Eisenach held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
