WEST RIDGE — Since 1968, Vince's Pizzeria and Taqueria has been slinging fresh burgers, Mexican dishes and pizza on Devon Avenue — but a new spot at 5754 N. Western Ave. is starting a new chapter for the neighborhood staple, its owner said.

Ivan Resendiz, who grew up in Edgewater, and wife Veronica, took over the local restaurant in 2013 and said demand form the community for better parking and a bigger restaurant led them to take over the former Max's Beef on Western Avenue.

On Sunday, the restaurant, now going by VPT, will begin the next leg in its journey with a grand opening celebration from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. that will include discounts, live entertainment and food and drink specials.

Resendiz said he's excited about the store's move from 1527 W. Devon Ave. and that it allows him to stay in the neighborhood.

VPT is well known locally for massive gourmet burgers, which Resendiz said are hand-pressed and never frozen. Toppings include jalapenos, arugula, bacon, pineapple, charred onions, chorizo, grilled zucchini and more, he said.

Burgers arrive with a "VPT" stamped on the top bun.

Other menu items like beer-battered fish and onion rings are all fresh and made in-house, Resendiz said.

The restaurant also serves up desserts like ice cream sundaes and an assortment of milkshakes, including Oreo and Lucky Charm-flavored drinks.
