BUCKTOWN — An upscale underpinning boutique based in New York City plans to open on Friday and bring its "siren-worthy lingerie" to a stretch of Damen Avenue that both Wicker Park and Bucktown lay claim.

Journelle launched in 2007 "to fill a void for women who felt chain stores didn't fit her aesthetic" according to a news release, which says Journelle draws is name from the French word journellement, meaning “daily.”

"Passionate about helping women feel great from the inside out, Journelle brings their belief of “everyday lovely” to life through lingerie and loungewear in feminine wearable silhouettes, French laces and elegant neutrals, blushes and noir," the company said.

One block north of the Milwaukee, Damen and North avenues intersection at 1725 N. Damen Ave., Journelle replaces Helen Yi, a boutique that closed last winter. Journelle's immediate retail neighbors are Lush, a soap shop and Peek Kids, a San Francisco-based clothing store for kids that opened last year.

Set to open at 10 a.m. Friday, Journelle's first shop outside of New York City will bring up to eight new part- and full-time jobs to the neighborhood.

According to a spokeswoman, bras range between $58-$92; bottoms start at $30; chemises range between $76-$188 and silk pajamas cost around $200.

On Wednesday, mannequins wearing the store's underpinnings appeared in the storefront display that had been previously covered with an advertisement.

Journelle, 1725 N. Damen Ave. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Ph: 312-471-1386.
