ANDERSONVILLE — Monday, the Neo-Futurist Theater began its celebration of the season with its holiday spin on "That's Weird, Grandma."

"That's Weird, Grandma" tells stories "written by Chicago Public School students and adapted for the stage and performed by Barrel of Monkey Company members." The holiday special will include "a lineup of stories old and new inspired by the holidays, winter and season of giving. From awkward family gatherings to Santa and his elves to snowball fights," according to a news release.

"That's Weird, Grandma: the Holiday Special" is directed by the Artistic Director Joseph Schupbach, who took over in 2014.

Barrel of Monkeys is an arts education theater ensemble that conducts creative writing workshops with elementary students in underserved Chicago Public Schools. Now in its 19th season, the company performs more than 300 student written stories, according to the news release.

The holiday special will be performed Mondays at 8 p.m until Dec. 28 at the Neo-Futurist Theater, 5153 N. Ashland Ave. Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for children under 12 and can be ordered here.
