AUBURN GRESHAM — A widely circulated rumor that police notified Chicago Public Schools staff of a coming gang war is "not credible," according to Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

On Monday, a Facebook post claiming that the Chicago Police Department notified CPS staff of a "gang shooting war" between rival gangs was shared at least 89 times, then distributed even further via text messages and other channels. The post said the war was "retaliation" related to last week's murders of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee and 20-year-old Kaylyn Pryor.

Guglielmi said the post was immediately sent to the Chicago Police Intelligence and Coordination Center, which includes law enforcement at the local, state and national level. After being thoroughly reviewed, Guglielmi said, the information in the post was "never corroborated as credible."
